Gerald Manfred Friedman (1921-) was born in Berlin, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in geology from Columbia University in 1952. He was an assistant professor of geology at the University of Cincinnati from 1950-1954, a consulting geologist from 1954-1956, a research geologist and sedimentary petrologist with Amoco Production Company from 1956-1964, and a professor of geology at Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute beginning in 1964.
